First Gourmet Academy was recently awarded a Recognition of Quality Culinary Education by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS), which signifies the school’s ability to meet and exceed the WACS Standards of Quality Education.
WACS, or Worldchefs as it is also referred to, is a global network founded in 1928 at the Sorbonne in Paris. Currently, it has 100 official chefs associations as members, representing over 10 million professional chefs worldwide. This non-political professional organization is “dedicated to maintaining and improving the culinary standards of global cuisines.” WACS hopes to accomplish these goals through education, training, and professional development of their international membership. Considered a global authority on food, Worldchefs is one of the main voices on issues related to the culinary profession.
First Gourmet Academy Director Mats Loo sent an application to WACS, which was thoroughly reviewed by a panel of WACS educators. It was John Clancy, WACS Education Chairman and WACS Director of Education, who gave us the good news and congratulated the dedicated staff and faculty of First Gourmet Academy. This recognition thus ensures that all First Gourmet Academy students are getting the world-class culinary education they deserve. The approval from WACS also gives our graduates an edge should they choose to apply for a WACS Recognized Chef Certification later in their careers.
